French is very important in a place like Canada. We are a bilingual country and this generation should have a knowledge of both French and English. Here in Newfoundland we are a mostly English province so it is up to the schools and parents to nurture this generation's idea about languages. French as a second language will be a great benefit to students in that it can help them in procuring employment, and it can also help if students want to travel abroad as many countries all over the world speak French. It will even benefit students who are not planning on travelling as learning a second language will greatly improve grammar skills and writing skills.
